Awakening to the Possible: Shamanic Journeys

An amazing blog post by our Academic Dean and faculty member Martha Brumbaugh, PhD. She will be offering a course Dancing the Sacred Wheel on Feb. 8th, 2016. Reserve your spot today in her course! http://www.emergentstudiesinstitute.org

The Edge of Lemuria

In thinking about my upcoming class at Emergent Studies Institute, I decided to use the Shamanic journey as a tool for discovery.  When asked about it, it seemed to me that perhaps a section of my doctoral dissertation might be the best way to tell you about it.  In this section, I reflect on the experiences of my co-researchers through the lens of Organic Inquiry, a qualitative research method.

I hope that the stories inspire you to think about the unlimitedness of possibility, and to think about taking the class.

Awakening to the Possible: Journeys

“Diana’s experience with her first journey sums up quite nicely the skepticism with which the many people regard our work, and shamanism as a whole.  It can be difficult for someone new to the concepts of non-ordinary ways of knowing to embrace their first experience.

Mystic Art Medicine – Guardians

Cosmic Connections Guardians Oracle Card.jpg

A dance to heal it all… Repair the fall…Cosmic Connections… Mirror Reflections Copper metal crease, spin the void… Release Taken to the stars and out beyond, to the Guardians Ancient Symbols speak it seems… We awaken from the dream. – Cher Lyn

The Beings in the painting of “Cosmic Connections” are Apache Dancers in ceremonial spirit. Glowing symbols are floating and spinning, emerging out of the vortex and off the dancers’ bodies themselves. They are the embodiment of our star brothers who watch over us. The blue flowers are from a dream time journey into another dimension on another planet, the star brother holds them as a gift he brings from home. The others hold curative tools of power from other worlds, gifts to channel and aid.

There is more to sight than just physical seeing. Human sight creates it’s own obstacles. We stop seeing where the general consensus says we should. There is much more to this dimension than meets the eye. We are often if not always being watched by beings that we ourselves cannot see with our naked eye.

The Guardians are here to support you in a number of ways, to include bringing you power to connect to multi-dimensional realities, “comprehended”. You are ancient, wise, and awake. Take notice of your imagination expanding and maturing. The Guardians are opening your vision to help you remember why you embarked upon your journey here on Earth. Communication of thoughts and feelings in your heart give fresh insights. Your higher knowledge becomes easily accessible as you let go of any fear or preconceived ideas of how limited you thought you were. Surrender into your highest good and relax into the vastness of Creation.

There seems to be something secret about everything and everybody, a mystery to behold within your perception. What you see in everyday life is not the natural world deceiving you, but nature encoding reality in ways you can come to terms with. The natural world looks the way it looks because of the way you have been taught.

If you’ve chosen Guardians study the ancient symbols of the Star Glyphs, the images of the crop circles. Place your attention upon the stars at night, and spend quality time in meditation exploring the Universal void inside your own soul. The Guardians are ready to telepathically assist you.

Exploring Emergent:

Course Prelude for “Emergent Practice for Emergent Projects”

I was recently asked: “What does emergent mean to you?”

Immediately, I thought of how I often use words like unfolding”or becoming.” Or how I might suggest to a client—“trysitting within that {feeling/memory/sensation/image} and see if anything wants to emerge…”

Dreams and dreamwork also came to mind because they provide a felt-sense of emergent.  Often, after working on a dream until gaining clarity, I find myself feeling that my life is something that is always becoming and always changing. A good dreamwork session fills me with awe, and I know then that I am an emergent being. This body and life house what I am becoming, and this process is ever in flux and flow. This is emergent. It is a place of powerful creative force.

This place is my…

Wild Wood Tarot – The Seer

The SeerThe Seer - Wild Wood Deck.jpg

Position on the Wheel

The Seer is at the hub of the Wheel in the quarter related to Water and emotions and linked to the mysteries of the Moon and the Earth. She is partnered with the Shaman and acts as a guide to the World Tree.

As the close this day we look to The Seer for guidance to begin again tomorrow. Inspiration, Wisdom even Divination are some of the keywords you can draw from when working with this card. This is also the card of Shamanic Flight, Soul Healing and empathy with nature.

When looking at this card I do feel like it is the consort in every equal way with the Shaman in the Wild Wood deck. I feel in this picture that The Seer is a female Shaman calling forth her mysteries and visions from beyond.

It is time to feel with your inner knowing, potentially your woman’s intuition. That divine feminine or masculine knowing past reason or logic. Is there an issue that you still, beyond logical thought do not know how to handle? Is there an issue in your life that cannot be solved through reason? This card is letting you know that you must look within, not without for those answers.

This could also be a card for a Nature/Spirit connection. It could be insisting that you need to re-establish a dialogue with nature and the Spirit that resides within it and within us.

At Emergent Studies Institute we strive to help you develop deeper connections with Spirit, the Divine or with yourself. We offer courses that flow with the faculty members creativity and with the students who enroll. Using these and other Emergent Education techniques we can offer a very unique approach to personal and professional growth. Mystic Art Medicine – Integration

Integration Oracle Card.jpg

Rainbow Blesser by Cher Lyn

Rainbow Blesser

A command for our souls, all parts to return. I call in God’s tribes to integrate these sides, Easily and gently, let peace within reside.”- Cher Lyn

Description: The image shown is from the upper portion of the painting “Rainbow Blesser.”

An indigenous profile of a man wear his Godhead as a headdress. His vertebra surround the spinal cord is aligned with vibrant colors associated with the Chakras. His healing hand tattooed with a six pointed star is integrated with a heart, sending love energies to the Earth’s children. The vision of “Rainbow Blesser” brings in the birth of the Rainbow Tribe creating healing, unity, and Integration into One.

The Hopi Indians believe that each of the worlds religions contains a thread and that these threads are always seeking each other. Integrally woven like a rope that will pull us out of the dark world and into the next. We all share an identical need to feel love. No matter what color the skin or how different the dress and how you perceive the behavior, there is no real significant division between others and us. Our basic nature is the same.

Inside each and everyone of us, our core is entirely whole and complete. Yet, on the exterior everything is fragmented and appearances can seem strange. Even part of your soul when severely traumatized can become disassociated. If you have phobias, feel hopelessness, even chronic fatigue, these could be symptoms suggesting soul loss. If this is the case, get help from a therapist in this area. Use the power of your mind connected to your Godhead to ignite tools for Integration.

You do not need a new Dogma to believe in. Inside at your core, you are perfect. You can always cultivate a stronger sense of compassion and tolerance for yourself and others. Inspire unity in your consciousness. Each of us carries an aspect, clue or piece of existence on how creation works.  Individually first, then collectively we come together to bring humanity into wholeness.

This amazing spiritual artist, Cher Lyn lives in Sedona, AZ where she showcases her artwork. These Oracle Cards are available through her online store front Mystic Art Medicine.

Take some time today in contemplation of our many connections with each other especially that connection we all can share through universal spirituality. Haven International and it’s programs, like Emergent Studies Institute share this cards sentiment. As they say in the pagan tradition, “we all come from the Goddess and to her we shall return. Like a drop of rain falling into the ocean.” We are but raindrop in a sea of community. By concentrating on how we can honor, respect and share the positive aspects of our differences we can make energetic waves together for Earth Change, Consciousnesses Shift and an end to separation. We live right now in a world filled with the perception of separation when in reality we are all one and the same no matter what race, creed or culture. Our differences only strengthen our global community. They allow each person to see things differently, from different perspectives and as the artist suggests, we all bring a piece of existence to a greater discussion that just hasn’t happened yet. Try to embody integration today!

Spring Term is only a few weeks away. Remember to speak to an Enrollment Counselor about your interest in Emergent Studies Institute. We can’t wait to speak with you. 🙂

New Years Resolution

woman-on-path1

Finding Your Path…

This time of year there are so many people out their making New Years Resolutions. They are engaging in the act of bettering themselves or potentially a group of people, their community by making a vow. This vow could be an end or a beginning, but the one thing that brings us all together in our resolutions is change.

The act of creating a New Years Resolution has become common place. In fact Wikipedia defines it as a”tradition most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement or something slightly nice, such as opening doors for people beginning from New Year’s Day.” – (Wikipedia, New Years Resolution)

At Emergent Studies Institute we are focused on change, transformation and self-actualization. We want to help our students meet their goals, expectations and even resolutions. We offer courses that help expand Creativity and Innovation, develop a deeper connection with Spirit through Emergent Spirituality, learn how to heal yourself and aid others in Holistic Healing or find out how to become a better steward of the Earth through Eco-Sustainability.

We also offer Enrichment Courses, classes that anyone can take regardless of their educational background. We will create a unique space for constructive discourse across political views, where vegans and hunters, rewilders and conservationists, animal breeders and rescuers, can share openly with each other.  We will pay particular attention to how culture, class, and religion shape our views, and even our very definitions of animal and human.

Students will have opportunities to conduct research related to their own interests.  This course will benefit anyone who works in animal-related fields such as advocacy, farming, policy-making, and law enforcement, as well as everyone who loves animals and hopes to make the Earth a home for all.

Poem:

Imagination Is Born

The shaft of light in the darkness, becoming the spark in the mind: creativity is awakened.

Hands and hearts become enlivened as we strive to create the oneness we find in nature;

struggling to go beyond surviving into becoming.

Forming connections with others; until the spark becomes the fires that light the world with the dawning of perception, of what could be…and imagination is born.

Imagination is born from the seeds of the earth and watchful eyes: as we learn to mix and grind fruits flowers, herbs learning the culinary arts of sensuous survival.

Imagination is born on flight: as we observe the birds soaring into the unknown and diving beneath the waves of limitless possibilities.

Imagination is born on the surface: as we paint on our bodies and earths hollows with the expressions of our hearts while singing to the moon of our mothers.

Imagination is born from roots threads: as we learn to weave our legends and truths into existence for our future.

Imagination is born as we learn how to move beyond survival into the light.

New Year’s Emergence…

AT EMERGENT STUDIES INSTITUTE …

All of our courses are taught online!

Golden Ratio EmergenceWe embrace the concept of Emergent Education, in the virtual classroom, to activate imaginations and engage in transformation.

This approach is a beautiful alternative to the patriarchal structure currently used in public education which employs linear thinking and utilizes pre-determined learning outcomes identified by those ‘experts’ outside the classroom and established before students walk in the door regardless of their skills, background or interests.  In addition, we utilize Emergent Curriculum which relies on the experts inside the classroom and educational organization to create courses that are relevant and powerful. We encourage and cultivate each individual teacher’s creativity, community co-creation and attentiveness to individual learners. Emergent curriculum activates teacher creativity and student learning for the benefit of all.

We believe both academic and practical training is built upon participants’ connection with Spirit.  It is this universal spirituality that connects us with ourselves and everyone around us. We all walk upon the path of Spirit, and just as the nautilus shell represents the soul’s journey, so do our graduates emerge with the understanding and commitment to build bridges in an ever-changing world.

Educational programs may include experiments in sustainability (permaculture, ecological housing, human animal relationships), youth projects, community arts projects, women’s and men’s spirituality, creativity and innovation and much more. Our programs are designed to be in-touch with the needs of students’ local communities, as well as recognizing our connection to a greater global society.
